I think it was a Christmastime story, and I was surprised by how explicit the imagery was. Martha Jones sort of became The Doctor's apostle who travelled the country encouraging everyone to pray to The Doctor (or sending him psychic energy or however she described it in sci-fi terms). Of course the Doctor became a Christ figure at the end. I thought this was a one-off, but by your description it's a well they frequently go to.
